My name is Andrew and I draw mostly comics. Sometimes I even post them on the internet!
If you're not familiar with my work, check out my website; there's tons of stuff in the comics and illustration sections. Currently, my main project is a slice of life science fiction comic called Sexbuzz, which I am posting in full chapters as they are completed (usually every few months). I've also been published in several comics anthologies, including, most recently, Fine Literature 2. I am a contributor to the comics blog Escape from Suicide Wolf Forest as well.
I can also be found on these internet places:
Thanks for looking at my comics, and feel free to email me: whitecomics at g mail dot com.

After having taken a break to draw this (and another comic that I haven't posted yet), I'm now working on the next chapter of Sexbuzz. I'm still in the writing/thumbnailing stages, so I thought I would talk a little about what that process is like for me.
I start by compiling notes from my various sketchbooks into one place. Some of these are ideas for Sexbuzz specifically, but a lot of them are images, snippets of conversation, etc. without any direction connection to the story but which I think might come in useful at some point. I also read through the comic so far and take notes on that. Eventually the very wide contours of the chapter's plot begin to emerge. At this point I tend to do much more writing than drawing.
Once I have a general idea of the plot I start trying to refine it by breaking it down into scenes. I'll then devote a separate spread to each of those and jump back and forth between them, writing dialogue or plot and doing some thumbnailing as well. At some point, I decide that I have a good enough idea of what is going to happen, and I move on to the real thumbnailing stage.
This is my final product before the production of the final art -- I don't do a script or anything like that. Most pages go through a few iterations at this stage, and I often tape in replacements for individual panels as well. I do some editing once I've finished all of the thumbnails for a given chapter and then change a few things when it comes time to draw a page as well. This is perhaps more inefficient than planning everything out beforehand, but it keeps things interesting and more spontaneous, which is very important for me.
So that's my basic writing process. I've thumbnailed five pages so far and hope to have finished all of them within a week or so. Hope a few of you find this interesting/informative.

I just finished a new comic. It is called A Beautiful March Day, and it is loosely based on a short story of the same name written by Italo Calvino. You can also read the original story online, though it’s a slightly different translation than the one I referenced. I tried to strike a balance between adhering to the original text and creating something that was original and could stand on its own. I have no idea if I succeeded.
I’ve loved almost everything I’ve read by Calvino, by the way, so I would encourage you to give his books a try if you haven’t. I suggest starting with If on a winter’s night a traveler.
Finally, I will mention one more time that I'm posting pretty regularly on Tumblr. You should follow me there for fun times.

I just posted a new comic on my website. It is called 'Empty' and you should go read it. I hope you enjoy it; please me let know what you think.
I finished this one quite a while ago, but for a number of reasons it took me forever to get it online. In other words, I have been working on lots of other stuff in the meantime. More comics coming soon.

I just posted chapter 3 of Sexbuzz (that's the first page above), so please take a look if you have a minute and let me know what you think.
So how are you guys doing? Hello? Is anyone there? Yeah....It's kind of a shame that livejournal has become such a wasteland -- I've met lots of people through this website and gotten invaluable advice about my cartooning. Then again, I dislike the ads and the unwieldy update interface as much as the next person, and I've been posting pretty regularly on tumblr because it's just so much easier. I think I'm gonna stick around here for a while longer, though. I'm still reading my friends page, even if no one else is!

Hey! I have a tumblr now! I didn't want to link to it until I was fairly certain I could keep up with it, but it's been about a month and I've been updating regularly, so you should follow me or whatever. I'll still repost bigger things here, but the tumblr interface makes it much easier to do small posts, and, essentially for me, queue posts ahead of time, so I will hopefully be more able to post stuff regularly on there.
Also: comics are going well. My goal is to have Chapter 3 of Sexbuzz, a couple panels from which you can see above, finished by the end of February.

That up there is the first page of Sexbuzz Chapter Two. Click it to read the rest, or perhaps jog your memory by taking a look at Chapter One first. Please let me know what you think.
( Lots more talk if you're interestedCollapse )
I have a few short stories that I'd like to do next to try some new things, and then it's back to Sexbuzz. Chapter 3 coming in a few months.
